Toughen your feet by walking as much as possible. Trim toenails and use foot powder. Walk about at home in bare feet as much as possible. |
Socks |
Wicking walking socks are best. Change your socks throughout the walk, it is important to keep your feet as dry as possible. |
Boots |
Light waterproof (Event or Gore-Tex) boots are highly recommended. Make sure they fit properly and that they are well broken in. |
Stretching |
Remember to do stretching exercises before and after a long walk. |
Hydration |
Drink little and often throughout your walk. Mix energy drinks with water. |
Temperature |
Maintain a constant body temperature by adjusting your clothing (removing or adding layers). |
Breaks |
Keep stops and breaks to a maximum of 10 –15 mins at a time or your muscles will begin to seize up. |
The Route |
If in doubt about the line of the Ivanhoe Way, sit down and work it out on the map before going any further rather than pushing on and possibly going in the wrong direction.
